On Wednesday morning (Nov. 29) the U.S. House of Representatives will be considering NRA-backed Concealed Carry Reciprocity. If CCR becomes federal law the weakest firearm concealed carry standards will override Illinois laws.
We are lucky that Illinois has extensive concealed carry laws, with age, training, and background check restrictions that must be met in order to carry a gun. If federal Concealed Carry Reciprocity passes, these laws won’t matter because visitors from other states won’t have to comply with the Illinois laws. There are twelve states that don’t even require a permit to carry a concealed gun in public and plenty of others that don’t require training or that allow people with a history of abuse or violent convictions to carry. I don’t want to take the chance of harmful people carrying guns in Illinois even if they’re just passing through, and I’m guessing you don’t either.
That’s why it’s important to let your U.S. Representative know how you feel Everytown for Gun Safety (the umbrella group over Moms Demand) makes it easy for you. Text DANGEROUS to 64433 to be connected to your rep. Tell them you OPPOSE Concealed Carry Reciprocity. Then tell other people you know.
Thanks for joining in the fight for common sense gun laws.
