Winners of the March 20 Democratic and Republican Primaries will appear on the November 6 General Election ballot, with the winner of that election succeeding Lisa Madigan, who has served as the state’s Attorney General since 2003. The Attorney General is the state’s chief legal officer, with responsibilities for advocating on behalf of Illinois residents; working with the General Assembly on legislation and litigating to ensure that state laws are adhered to.
