WEDNESDAY, 9/1 the ERA RV Rolls Into Park Ridge for Education, Voter Registration
An RV promoting the ERA will make a stop in Park Ridge from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on September 1 in the parking lot of Park Ridge Community Church, 100 Courtland Ave. Volunteers from the League of Women Voters of Park Ridge and Action Ridge will be on hand to register voters.
The purple Ruthless Vote Getter RV (or Notorious RVG), a nod to the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, has been touring the United States making stops to advocate for gender equality and push for passage of the 28th amendment, the Equal Rights Amendment.
"The Notorious RVG is a fun way to celebrate the 28th Amendment, while remembering the importance of voting for equality-minded candidates," said AJ Conroy, co-chair of ERA Illinois, a coalition of Illinois organizations working for the ERA. Illinois is still fighting through the leadership of our Attorney General Kwame Raoul who filed a lawsuit to have the amendment recognized. Illinois is joined by Nevada and Virginia in the lawsuit pending in the DC Court of Appeals. "Getting Illinois to finally ratify in 2017 took the combined effort of so many folks. These stops in Illinois feel like mini-reunion parties," said Conroy, who also is a member of the LWV of Park Ridge.
After touring the South last year, the RV is making stops in the Midwest with visits scheduled in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri and North Dakota. To learn more about the tour and the ERA, visit https://voteequality.us.
"The purple RVG is hard to miss,” said Conroy, “and you can't help but smile when you see her on the road.”
